Accessing respite is is important for every person who cares for someone with disability.

We recognise the challenges that come with being a caregiver of someone who lives with disability. We offer parents or other caregivers the chance to step away and rest, while providing an accommodating space for their loved ones knowing that they are being cared for in a safe, accessible environment.

What is short term accommodation?

Short term accommodation is a service that provides respite to carers of people with disability. Our clients can come and enjoy a safe, comfortable space that has been fully customised to cater for people with disability.

We also have an on-site Occupational Therapist who is available for therapy sessions or assessments, as well as access to other allied health care providers if required.

How long can a person stay in short term accommodation?

People can use short term accommodation for any period from 4 hours, through to a few weeks. A popular service is our weekend option, where our clients are dropped off at 4pm Friday and picked up at 4pm on Sunday.

Will my NDIS funding cover the cost of short term accommodation?

It depends on your level of funding but, yes, most people who care for people with disability will have an allocation of funding for short term accommodation, with the purpose of respite. If you’re unsure of whether your funding will cover STA, get in touch with one of our friendly team members.

What will the person I care for do while they are in short term accommodation?

It depends on the needs of the individual, but we provide a roster of engaging and enriching activities to keep them happy and occupied. These range from city outings to museums, a trip to the swimming centre, or outdoor activities, for example.

Will there be other people in short term accommodation at the same time?

That also depends on the needs of the person you care for. For people with higher needs, we maintain a 1:1 ratio of carer to client. For people who don’t require such a high level of care, a ratio of 1:3 will be used, giving our clients an opportunity to benefit from valuable social engagement.
